Hi there, lovely Maiedae readers. I'm Shell and I blog over at Kitty & Buck. I'm a graphic designer, musician, ballerina, and cat wrangler. I currently live in Sydney, Australia, but I dream of traveling anywhere and everywhere. I've visited many parts of Australia, Japan, the U.K, France, Ireland, and over 22 states in the USA, but I'm always hungry for more! Today I'm celebrating fall with you, because even though I'm enjoying spring right now, I am feeling super envious of your snuggly clothes and beautiful foliage. I've designed some lettering around an Albert Camus quote to set the mood, and then there's some photos from my fall, back in May. I hope you enjoy them.
Thank you so much for having me, Savannah! I'm honoured to be here on your beautiful blog today. If anyone would like to say hello, you can always find me over at Kitty & Buck, I'd love to meet you :)
Thank you for sharing your autumn with us! Shell is one of Maiedae's featured sponsors for the month of October! If you would like to sponsor Maiedae during the holidays, visit my advertisement page here. :) Be back later with some more Halloween themed inspiration!

CAPOSHI + GIVEAWAY! (CLOSED)
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Hey, folks! I’m Anastajia - most people just call me Stajia, so we’ll go with that. I was born in beautiful Orange County and grew up in the Inland Empire, where I currently live - lets go So Cal!! Since graduating with my BA in studio art, I’ve been chasing my dream of being a full-time//fully-supporting artist. My independent business Caposhi /ka-paw-shee/ is where the magic happens!
2. What made you decide to start blogging?
I must admit, I’m not as much of a blogger as I used to be//would like to be. I think its mainly because I over-think what to write about! When I do manage to dream up a blog post, I tend to share things with my readers. Whether it's a new artist I love, a song from an artist I'm crushing on, a DIY, or a silly adventure story, my goal is always to share something personal and fun with my readers.
3. What are your favorite things to blog about? Favorite posts?
I’m currently cycling through a major Pinterest obsession, so most recently, my favorite posts revolve around that. I love sharing new finds I’m drooling over, hoping my readers will too!
4. What are you favorite things to make for your shop?
My favorite thing to make is jewelry. I am a huge accessory buff, so jewelry is of course an absolute must! My current spring line is largely geometric, deceptively minimal and strikingly bold. While the jewelry I make is constantly taking on new influences, I always look to include a delicate balance between new and old, masculine and feminine, and popular trends and unique perspectives.
My fall line, which I’m in the process of wrapping up, will feature subtle botanical hues paired against a warm desert vibe. I am seriously stoaked - should have new items up mid to late September! Woo!
5. What is your favorite pass-time?
Taking it easssy! I love spending time with my fabulous friends, my wonderful boyfriend, and my two dog children: Penelope and Bigsby. (It’s embarrassing how much I love my dogs - they are seriously two of my very best friends!) I’m a total foodie, a thrift store junkie, and an avid photographer. I love doing new things and am always up for an adventure! Recent conquests include roller derby, firing huge guns at the shooting range, and knitting.
6. What is on your current wish-list?
EVERYTHING from Nasty Gal, record player, roller skates, swiss army knife, this print, this print and this print.
7. Favorite blog reads?
For all things food ---> A Cozy Kitchen
For all things home ---> Design*Sponge
For entertaining inspiration ---> 100 Layer Cake
For design inspiration ---> Lovely Package
For everything else ---> Oh Joy Blog
And like 1000 more, but I cant really list evvvverything can I??
8. Favorite summertime song?
Don’t judge me - but I love that Call Me Maybe song by Carly Rae Jepsen... I can’t get it out of my head and I blast it EVERY time it comes on on the radio! Not my favorite summer song of ALL time, that distinction would hands down go to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but definitely my favorite summer song of 2012. (I found a wonderfully ridiculous metal cover of that song on youtube - def worth a watch//listen! Too funny!)
9. What's your favorite meal?
Only one?! I LOVE FOOD! Any and every kind of food - I could never choose just one meal to be my favorite. I think when it comes to food favorites I seek out quality ingredients, unique combinations, serious deliciousness, and a passionate cook. Any meal that meets that criteria is a favorite in my book - those are the meals you remember!
10. What inspires you?
I always push myself to find inspiration in the most seemingly ‘un-inspirational’ or overlooked places. Graffiti in a parking garage, nature creeping in on an abandoned building, disposable packaging. I also find a lot of inspiration in the created world around me - advertisements, products, print, that sort of thing. I’m also very tuned into fashion, street art, alternative culture, and nature - inspiration is everywhere!

SOLO FEATURE: MY LIFE IN LAVENDER + GIVEAWAY!
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
My name is J and I’m a fashion blogger, student, and amateur photographer. (I’m still learning!) I’ve always been in love with fashion and this year, after endless internal debates, I went ahead and launched ‘My Life in Lavender’. My blog is a culmination of my passions which include fashion, photography, and music. I also have a penchant for funky jewelry, coffee, candles, and rich melodies.
2. What made you decide to start blogging?
About three years ago, I started obsessively reading fashion blogs; loving how individual women are showcasing their passions and eclectic tastes for fashion from all over the world. I continued to read these fashion blogs between my hectic schedule. When the busy-life became a little too much, I took a step back and realized that maybe starting my own blog would be good for me. As a student, I am very used to putting classes first and forgetting my other interests. ‘My Life in Lavender’ is my escape from the day-to-day craziness. It’s my artistic outlet.
3. What are your favorite things to blog about? Favorite posts?
It took me a little while to find my niche and realize exactly what I love to blog about and I’ve landed on two distinct passions: fashion and music. I’ve started up a segment that comes out on Tuesdays called ‘Tune Tuesdays’ and you can see my favorite one so far here. I feel that beautiful melodies are necessities in life, so writing about them has become some of my favorite times. I also love putting together my fashion posts. I do a series called 'What I Wore' and describe my outfits. So far, my favorites would have to be this one and this one.
4. What is your favorite pass-time?
My favorite pass time is to watch television shows. I go through phases where I marathon one show at a time. Currently, I’m watching Lost and a month ago it was Pretty Little Liars. I tend to skip around and don’t have one set genre I stick to.
5. What is on your current wish-list?
My current wish-list includes: Blue Dress, Marc Jacobs Daisy Perfume, and NARS Lipstick in Roman Holiday.
6. Favorite blog reads?
My daily’s include: Hapa Time, A Go Go Fashion, and Casey Leigh.
7. If you had three wishes, what would they be?
(1) Have my own studio//work space to put together posts, take photographs, and work on my jewelry making.
(2) Travel around the world. I especially would love to visit Europe.
(3) Be [stay] Happy.
8. Favorite summertime song?
Not exactly solely a summer song but I’m absolutely in love with ‘Stereo’ by Mike Mains & the Branches.
9. What's your favorite food?
My favorite food is Lavender flavored ice cream.
10. What inspires you the most?
My biggest inspiration is music. I love lyrics and so I pay close attention to the words people sing. I feel that those words hold so much weight and meaning that they have the potential to change everything. To me, a good song could brighten any day.

SOLO FEATURE: MAGPIE
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
My name is Meghan. I am the mama of four rescue kitties and one spunky Sheltie pup. I’m a fashion enthusiast, photographer, writer, fashion//lifestyle blogger, and Civil War reenactor (nerd alert!). I find joy in the simplest of things – birds singing, vanilla ice cream with rainbow sprinkles, long naps under the perfect conditions… I am happiest when I am out-of-my-mind busy, or, when I am doing absolutely nothing at home surrounded by my little balls of fluff. Either or suits me well!
2. What made you decide to start blogging?
I have always had a passion for fashion. However, it didn’t fully blossom until after I’d graduated from college (having an itty bitty clothing budget up until then probably had something to do with it). It is so invigorating piecing together outfits and being able to express myself outwardly. To me, that's art... Creating. I enjoy sharing my ideas with others. That is ultimately why I decided to start my blog. My idea was to utilize that mode of communication and help others discover//express their individuality via their wardrobe as well. Just spreading the love! <3
3. What are your favorite things to blog about? Favorite posts?
My favorite things to blog about are fashion and my pets, because they both make me oh-so happy!
4. What is your go-to summer outfit?
Come summer, skirts and dresses are my best buds.
5. Favorite pass-time?
Napping. There is nothing better than a nap on a cold winter’s day snuggled warm in bed, or, on a blissful summer’s day nestled in a hammock in the shade.
6. What is on your current wish-list?
Tutu skirt, ultimate cat tree for my kitties, photo shoot with my pup, a rockin' tree house and a tropical getaway.
7. Favorite blog reads?
Tough question! There are so many great blogs out there and there are so many that I read and love. However, if I had to narrow it down to the most looked at, at the moment, they would be:
Traveling Triplets
A Girl Named Nydia
Pie N' the Sky
Roots & Feathers, Violet Bella
Maiedae (naturally :D !)
8. If you had three wishes what would they be?
1) Long, healthy, and prosperous lives for my family, pets, and me.
2) That all the stray animals in the world would find happy, safe, and loving homes.
3) To travel and see the world.
9. What's your favorite meal?
Pizza with honey on the side (I LOVE dipping my pizza in honey).
10. What inspires you the most?
Family, religion, and my pets are the biggest sources of inspiration in my life.

SOLO FEATURE: PAPER CROWNS
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Hi, everyone! I'm Natasha, and I blog over at Paper Crowns. I'm a Canadian, married to an American, whom I met while living in South Korea. We spent much of the past four years traveling and living abroad, and after returning back to North America and getting married last May, we now call Charlottesville, Virginia, home. I'm a lover of design in all forms and an admirer of anyone who lives to create. I've been blogging since early this year, and it's been such a great experience for me so far. The blogging community has been so welcoming, and I've so enjoyed having the chance to share snippets of my daily life, as well as my love of design in all its forms. In addition to blogging, I'm pursuing my dream of being a graphic designer. My husband, Kyle, is a writer and journalist. We love music, faraway places, long drives on rainy days, and each other.
2. What made you decide to start blogging?
I started reading home and lifestyle blogs while still in Korea, dreaming about what I could do with a living space that didn't consist of one room bound by concrete walls with weirdly textured wallpaper slapped up over them. For a couple years, I read blogs and busied myself with projects (planning my wedding being a big one!), but it wasn't until this past winter that it suddenly clicked that I could start my own blog. I love trying to approach every post like it can be its own little work of art. We, as bloggers, have an amazing opportunity to use images and words together to evoke feelings in our readers, and nothing makes me happier than when I feel like what's on the screen matches what was in my head.
I also love the community aspect of blogging. It's been such a treat getting to know the bloggers and readers I've connected with since beginning this blogging adventure. Even before I started blogging, I saw how strong the sense of community was in the blogging world. I thought it was so inspiring, and eventually I realized that I really wanted to be a part of it, rather than just a reader. Once I got started, I really started to appreciate just how blogging provides anyone with a passion with the opportunity to share their craft with others without having to jump through the traditional hoops of academic credentials and work experience. You can just put yourself out there and let the world decide if it's interested in what you have to offer. It's a little scary, but it's exciting, too!
3. What are your favorite things to blog about? Favorite posts?
I love blogging about all the little moments that would otherwise pass unobserved and eventually forgotten: rainy walks through misty gardens, hunting for that one record or perfect piece of art, visiting that lively fair or market. The ability of a good blog to turn a stranger's everyday life into something worth exploring is something I've always marveled at; making my own experiences into posts that other people actually enjoy, and take something away from, has been such a great experience.
Some of my favorite posts include when I shared my rainy-day engagement photos, a post on beautiful concert poster art, a recent post in which I shared a few of my DIY projects from my wedding, and a little snapshot-of-life post, about a little adventure we had exploring in the rain.
4. You are a fellow graphic designer! What made you start doing design, how are you involved in design now?
I've always loved design. But it never occurred to me that it was something I might actually be able to do professionally until I was doing DIY stuff for my wedding. As the months went on and my wedding got closer and closer, I started to think I bit off more than I could chew. I felt so overwhelmed by everything I had to do for my wedding. The graphic design elements—invitations, programs, place cards, signs—became an oasis, something that I actually enjoyed amid a whole lot of things that were just daunting, time-consuming, and stressful.
Still, I didn't really get serious about starting my own design business until after I started blogging. One of the things that has made blogging so special and such an amazing experience for me is that it took something that I just had dreams of doing—being self-employed as a graphic designer—and made it actually possible as a reality. As I worked on my own blog and some little design side projects for others, I started to think, "Maybe I can make a business out of this." I haven't looked back since. I'm so grateful to the blogging experience for helping me to figure out exactly what I want to do with my life. Graphic design is what I want to do forever, if I'm lucky enough!
5. Favorite pastime?
I'd have to say music—listening to it, singing it, playing it. As much as I love the visual arts and powerful words, nothing hits me on a profound emotional level quite like music. When someone has composed beautiful words and set them to the right melody, it just grabs me like nothing else. I love teaching myself songs that I love on guitar. Hanging out and playing guitar and singing with friends is one of my absolute favorite things to do.
6. What is on your current wish-list?
A few nights in this amazing Norwegian glass igloo hotel in the dead of winter. Can you imagine?
This adorable mint and gold watch from Anthropologie. I've had my eye on this for a few months. Pretty much my dream watch, and it's affordable, too!
This bedding from Anthropologie. Another Anthro choice, but I couldn't resist! It's probably the most perfect bedding I've ever seen.
7. Favorite blog reads?
Fieldguided. Anabela's posts are so breathtakingly beautiful, that they really are mini works of art. Her photography is stunning and unique and among my favorite I've ever come across, period. Her blog is just a breath of fresh air and I can't rave enough about it. She's also from Toronto, where I was born and raised, so that little connection instantly drew me in!
Another favorite is The Flowerchild Dwelling. Kelly Ann is super inspiring, both in her design work and in her aesthetic approach to blogging. Her blog posts feature simple, beautiful imagery that has a dreamlike quality.
8. If you had three wishes what would they be?
To have the absolute freedom to travel, just pick up and follow my heart anywhere, at any time. To master the guitar (and the banjo!). To live in an apartment that allows pets (you have no idea how much I want a bunny and a puppy).
9. What's your favorite meal?
I literally think I could eat sushi every single day. The best meal I've ever eaten was in a little sushi restaurant right near the fish market in Tokyo that provides seafood to a huge portion of the entire Japanese population. I went with my husband, Kyle, and my brother, Nick. We ordered hot sake and plate after plate of the freshest sushi I've ever tasted. I'm pretty sure nothing else will ever compare, but luckily I've been able to find a few great sushi restaurants every placed I've lived, to satisfy my endless cravings!
10. What inspires you the most?
Anything beautiful. That can be anything from music to design. Above all, I'm inspired by people's ability to make something beautiful out of absolutely nothing, whether it's lyrics, or music, or great design. Simple graphic design that actually says something; a haunting piece of music; beautiful fashion, or painting, or writing. I'm inspired by anything that someone starts from scratch and then builds up until it actually makes you feel something. All I ever want in blogging and in design is to achieve that.

SOLO FEATURE: APPLE BLUE
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
My name is Amanda and I've been a blogger for a few years now. I'm 31 years old and live in Denver, CO. I'm going to go ahead and say this is the most beautiful place I've ever lived. Each morning, on the drive to work, I have the city skyline to my left and the mountains to my right. I'm currently working on opening my first retail store! It's been quite an adventure so far and I love sharing every step of the process with my readers. I also blog DIY projects, business and blogging tips, artist and designer features, reviews, and pretty much anything else that makes me happy. I'm obsessed with puppies, vintage, home decorating, ethnic food, and documentaries.
2. What made you decide to start your blog and business?
I originally started my blog as a way to record my journey into discovering my creative side. Over the years, that developed into two different Etsy shops, an amazing outlet for writing (I was an English Major in college...) craft fairs, and working really hard to become a better blogger. I have learned so much and loved every minute. I never expected this blog to become what it is today, but I'm overwhelmingly blessed that it has. I blog around 5 days a week and also work as a freelance blog designer and small business consultant.
3. What are your favorite things to blog about? Favorite posts?
One of my top rules for blogging is "Only blog it if you really, really love it." Here are some of the posts that I've enjoyed sharing the most! My 52 Weeks With Dorothy series, things I think are amazing like the projects in this Paper Crafts post, and sharing the honest and real side of my life, like I did in this post about The Best Advice I Never Took.
4. Favorite past-time?
My favorite past time is at the moment is Sudoku. I'm a bit obsessed actually. I really feel like it helps me get my mind going in the morning while I drink my tea. And for someone as insanely competitive as I am, it is definitely a great challenge.
5. What's on your current wish-list?
Here are three things on the top of my wish list right now: Comfy things like The Henry Sofa from West Elm, slightly geeky things like this folding tripod, and just plain pretty things like these pillows from Harvest Textiles.
6. Favorite blog reads?
I would read a hundred blogs a day if I could, but there are a few that I never miss: Under the Sycamore for her amazing DIY's, photography, and international adoption story. The Harvest Textiles blog because it's always so fascinating and inspiring. I also love Oh Ladycakes because her recipes and food photography are genius.
7. If you had three wishes what would they be?
If I had three wishes, they would be for all my family and friends to live in the same city, a winning lottery ticket so I could open my store tomorrow, and of course... my third wish would be for unlimited wishes.
8. What's your favorite meal?
My favorite meal would be a plate of the world's best sushi.
9. What inspires you the most?
I have always been most inspired by films and documentaries. There are so many talented and creative directors out there and it always pushes me to create something.

INTERVIEW WITH EAGER BEAVER
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I’m Sara Kinninmont, a writer, dreamer, adventurer, and, most importantly, an Eager Beaver. I created my website as a means of not only combining my loves, but in hopes of inspiring myself and others to Live Like You Give a Damn!
2. What made you decide to start blogging?
I started keeping a list of fun to-do's back in 2007. It wasn't until December of 2010 that I decided to create Eager Beaver. Once I had the name and the tag line, there was no denying that it had to happen.
Incidentally, the original list now has over 5000 things on it!
3. What are your favorite things to blog about? Favorite post?
I love that my website is interactive and allows readers to dream big dreams or, at the very least, introduce them to something they've never heard of before. Overall, I like to think that my website is about possibilities. Chocolate covered bacon? Who knew? Check out the gallery here: http://www.eager-beaver.com/gallery.
4. What are the top 5 things you hope to-do in 2012?
I want to learn to play the ukelele, get back into running, drive down to Portland, Oregon, go sugar-free for a month, and relax in Bali.
5. What is your favorite pass-time?
I'm in the middle of a hate//love relationship with trying to teach myself to cook. Unfortunately, more often than not, my enthusiasm outweighs my skill level and the result is anywhere from inedible to finding its way into my dog's dish.
6. What is on your current wish-list?
An overnight stay in this sphere hotel.
7. Favorite blog reads?
Kindnessgirl, crazysexylife, bleubirdvintage, delightfullytacky, and Maiedae.
8. If you had three wishes what would they be?
Unlimited travel, the abolishment of pesticides, and a rule that states everyone has to waitress once in their life.
9. Current favorite source of inspiration?
My local library. I'm there at least a couple times a week.
10. What's your favorite meal?
Vietnamese salad rolls filled with avocado and mango, or else a green kale-based smoothie.

SOLO FEATURE: THE DARLING EWE + GIVEAWAY (CLOSED)
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I’m Megan and I started up my blog and shop just a few short months ago. I had never really considered that I would be able to keep up with this amazing creative community, but then I figured I should at least try to prove myself wrong! So, here I am. I was born and raised in New Hampshire and now can be spotted wandering the streets of Philadelphia. If you see a rather tall gal with mismatched socks who is sporting a lovely sling and colorful cast then, well, you found me!
2. What made you decide to start your shop & blog?
I have always been interested in the world of crafting and making, but never thought that I could have my very own shop. Then I started getting back into knitting and was making things faster than I could give them away! A friend hinted at some awesome blogs out there that I should check out which took me on an evening internet tour of tons of inspiring and creative people. I noticed that maybe even I could give this a shot. What’s the harm, right? I still have that voice in the back of my head saying, “who would read this?” “you are not nearly interesting enough to have a blog” and things of that nature, but that’s kind of what keeps me going! You never know who’s going to find your blog, enjoy it, and stick around!
3. What are your favorite things to blog about? Favorite posts?
I like blogging about other crafters and makers that I admire. I am also the proud new owner of an awesome camera and absolutely can’t wait to take more pictures of the average day to day happenings. That may be my very favorite part of having my own blog and now that I have a functional camera I can do a lot more of it.
4. What are your favorite things to make for your shop?
My favorite things to make for my shop are probably headbands at the moment. I unfortunately recently did a rather graceful (and very unintentional) cartwheel off my bicycle and landed safely with a broken wrist. Needless to say I’ve been on a knitting hiatus, but before the fall, I couldn’t make headbands fast enough and wanted to make every color combination ever! Hopefully my enthusiasm picks back up when I can get back to my needles.
5. Favorite pass-time?
I feel as though I go through pass-time phases. One month I will be reading non-stop and the next I can’t stop knitting. I might get really into baking and then I’ll switch to making a quilt. I get super into movie watching and then I will switch to painting. I’m not certain there is one consistent and stand-out favorite.
6. What is on your current wish-list?
Hmmmm, tricky. I am generally impressed by most things which makes my wish-list never-ending. Lately, I’ve had my eye on a few vintage items… day dreaming really.
7. Favorite blog reads?
la petite choue, one sheepish girl, The Dainty Squid, <3elycia, A is for Ampersand, sock monkey & gee, Tea Talk, and, of course, the always wonderful MaieDae!
8. If you had three wishes what would they be?
Oh goodness, I’m afraid I would be one of those people who would hold onto those wishes, content that I had them but way too indecisive to ever use them. Even today when I see a shooting star I give my wishes away to the people around me. If forced, I guess right now I could wish for my wrist to be healed!
9. What's your favorite meal?
All of them? Do you get a sense for my indecisive nature yet? I love goat cheese just as much as I love spicy Thai food. It may be between the two (yes, I am implying that goat cheese is a meal. Wishful thinking.). Or fruit salad! I do love fruit salad.
10. What inspires you the most?
People! I get people crushes on just about everyone I meet. I love surrounding myself with awesome, creative, inspiring, wonderful people. It keeps my brain working and it keeps me happy and feeling lucky.

Solo Feature: Ever So Lovely + Giveaway!
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Hello all! My name is Brandi Moody and I am the founder of Ever So Lovely® which is a small design studio just outside of Raleigh, North Carolina.
2. What made you decide to start your shop & blog?
Well, ever since I could pick up a crayon, I have always loved art and design. It is something that I have to do and after going to college for Graphic Design and working in the industry professionally for fourteen years, I decided to start up Ever So Lovely. When I was at Meredith College (an all women's college here in NC) I minored in Creative Writing and I've always loved interviewing people about their craft. Naturally, I decided to start up Ever So Lovely as a blog where people could go to be inspired by all of the talent that is around the world.
I also used to have a shop under the name Creativ*Bee Designs where I sold my handmade jewelry designs and art. I just decided to rebrand my company and have everything under one name.
3. What are your favorite things to blog about? Favorite posts?
That's a tough one. I would have to say all of my posts become my favorites because of what different designers share about their journey as artists and designers. What inspires them. What drives them. It's just all so intriguing to know what motivates everyone since everyone's craft is so different. I totally understand what each person goes through, because being an artist myself, it's great to learn about others.
But if you would like to know a couple of my favorite interviews, I would have to say interviewing international photographer Lara Jade was amazing! I have always been a huge fan of her work and the fact that she took the time out to talk with me about her work was amazing. I interviewed her last year and she had 17,000 Facebook fans. In just a year, she's grown to almost 70,000 fans which is astounding since she is just 22 years old.
Another interview I loved was with the two sisters, Jessica and Gwynne, who are the talent behind the label Rosella Resin. They make the most unique resin jewelry with feathers and found objects and they are really great people!
I absolutely LOVED interviewing with Adrienne Berry of Dingbat Press who is one of the most talented letterpress designers I have ever known. She really dives deep into her craft and creates some gorgeous work for her clients.
4. What are your favorite things to make for your shop?
It varies depending on my mood. Some days I really love making my hand-painted silk scarves because it's an art form, while other days I really love spending time surrounded by various vintage findings and gemstones which light up my work station with color.
I also love, love, love creating logos for my clients. That has to be one of the most rewarding things I do since I get to learn so much about someone else's company and what they want for their business. It's the best creative journey you can go on and in the end you help someone else create something they love so much that they use it for their business. That is probably my most favorite thing to make.
I also love to create custom illustrations for weddings and anniversaries. People give me some of their favorite photographs and I combine everything to make a unique image for their special occasion. The framed oval illustration was a design I created for two of my best friends who were getting married. They both loved the beach and I created an illustration of the bride in the dress similar to the one she was wearing when her fiancé proposed to her. They really loved it and I was really excited about the finished design.
I also am working on several new projects that I will be unveiling in 2012 which will involve some of my hand illustrations.
5. Favorite pass-time?
That would be spending time with my husband and taking weekend trips out to the Outer Banks of NC. I also bake some mean cookies! (photo attached). I gave my famous chocolate cookies away for Christmas and my friends said they were the best cookies ever.
6. What was on your Christmas wish-list?
Well, I had a long list to give my husband, but he made my year with three things I really wanted. The first was a handmade Amethyst Heart Necklace from Moorea Seal, the next was a beautiful Black Quartz Necklace from Pole Star and he knew I love pretty vintage bags...well he searched all over and found the cutest vintage Louis Vuitton satchel from the early 80s in pristine condition. Yes, my husband is awesome! :)
7. Favorite blog reads?
There are so many out there but some of my favorites are Oh Hello Friend, Design Sponge, Indie Fixx, Style Me Pretty, and 2Modern Blog.
8. If you had three wishes what would they be?
Hmmm. 1) I would say - win the lottery 2) buy a house at the beach with said lottery money where I would keep designing and blogging 3) just live a long and happy life
9. What's your favorite meal?
My husband and I just discovered a dish this week that Carrabba's makes called Chicken Bryan. OH MY GOSH! That was the best meal EVER! It's two grilled chicken breasts topped with goat cheese, sun dried tomatoes and a basil lemon butter sauce. If you haven't had it, you owe it to yourself to try it....It's probably my favorite dish of the year.
10. What inspires you the most?
I would say nature. There are so many organic things out in the world that have pattern and shape which at some point or another has helped to inspire my work. That and a good cup of coffee. :)

Solo Feature: Hodgepodge Arty + Giveaway!
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I'm Karen Elizabeth Blackburn. I live in Chicago with my husband//love, Josh, and our dog, Nora. During the day, I teach preschoolers and in the evenings, I love making things. When I was a child, I was always making something...fancy dolls made from toothpicks (see here), friendship bracelets, recreations of food and meals in felt with a magnet stuck to the back for the refrigerator, little drawings of ballerinas, and stories about mice. I learned how to knit and sew when I was in elementary school and never stopped. I had a creative and influential mom who was always making things and making things beautiful.
2. What made you decide to start your shop & blog?
I wanted a little place for friends and family to find my makings. I'm still exploring what goes in it, and it does seem a bit of a hodgepodge sometimes, but that's ok. I continue to explore and challenge myself to make things that I truly love and explore patterns and fabrics that I'm drawn to. I also like displaying my photographs. They don't really sell, but that's ok. I like that people look at them and can enjoy them.
3. What are your favorite things to blog about? Favorite posts?
I'm still learning to find my blogging voice (taking a course on it at the moment), but I really enjoy blogging about DIY projects and showing people how to make things. I think it's the teacher in me...I like organizing the steps to create something!
4. What are your favorite things to make for your shop?
The knits are my favorite...all of them! The fingerless gloves are a blast to make and it's fun coming up with ways to embellish them...I try to make it something that will make people smile. I also enjoy designing cowls with different patterns like this one. Influenced by my work teaching preschoolers, I'm working on more dolls and puppets for the shop, too.
5. Favorite pass-time?
Movies...in crowded theaters, in quiet theaters, at home, or in the park. Old or new, movies are simply the best. They give me a chance to keep my fingers busy...I'm always knitting or making something while we watch them.
6. What is on your current wish-list?
Any knitting patterns by Jane Richmond. I adore her.
I have two, but would love more tutus. The best ones are found here. They are lovely to work with and you can literally choose from dozens of colors and design your own. I wore one for my wedding and think they're just magical.
A sewn print from Tastes Orangey...any one of them.
7. Favorite blog reads?
DIY from A Beautiful Mess
Doll techniques from Wee Wonderfuls
Beautiful images from Little Brown Pen
8. If you had three wishes what would they be?
I think they change everyday. Some days I don't need them :)
9. What's your favorite part about the holidays?
I love that "the holidays" are literally about 40 days of festivities, with something to look forward to everyday. It's a tradition that we don't do anything Christmas-y until Thanksgiving. But once that magical November Thursday hits, it's Christmas until early January in our home. My husband and I make a list of everything we want to do and tack it to the fridge. From decorating our entire apartment to making gingerbread houses to spiking our hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps, it's all so wonderful and lasts so long.
10. What inspires you the most?
Children's stories and illustrations, the rainbow of yarn colors in a small yarn shop, traveling, and a really good movie.

Solo Feature: Manzanita + 50% off Coupon!
Hello MaieDae readers! My name is Rebecca Caridad. I am the lady behind Manzanita, which is a blog, an etsy shop, and soon to be everything else I love to do like photography, art, and music blog. I live in Boulder, CO, with my fiancé and two very small dogs, where we get to enjoy the mountains, easily attainable organic foods, and the company of my family that just recently moved right down the street from us!
2. What made you decide to start your shop & blog?
Well, I have always done fiber art and one day, someone said, “I love this, you should sell it!” When I found out about Etsy and realized how user friendly it was, I became really excited to have a place to collect all my little goodies. At first it was mostly just for fun, but now I really feel inspired to make a career out of this.
The blog came later. The blogosphere is this amazing resource for small business owners. I originally started the blog to help promote the shop but since then it has evolved into this huge part of my life. It has inspired me to pay more attention to the aesthetics of what I do and where I do it. It has also helped make amazing connections with other crafty and talented people all over the world, which is crazy! I have people I call my friends who live in Portugal and The Netherlands, I love it. And, it has gotten me back into photography, which I am completely in love with!
3. What are your favorite things to blog about?
I really enjoy photographing a whole day. I recently visited the Bay area and it was so nice to be able to share all the beautiful places we visited. To be able to make each day, or place, a whole event is such a gift. Now we have those memories captured in this very pretty and organized way.
I have also recently gotten into outfit posts, which I had a pretty strong aversion to at first. I did not understand why so many bloggers were doing them. But now I realize that for me it is this great opportunity to play dress up, it inspires me not to just wear jeans and a t-shirt to work, and it is a really fun way to promote other peoples' merchandise. I really like to include other people in my outfit posts, especially guys. There are not enough men in the blogosphere, so I always drag my brother or fiancé in with me. :)
I love to make it all! The Elsie is a big hit right now and I have to say it is one of my favorites. Of course, bows are always adorable and fun to make. My cocktail hats are so fun to wear and I absolutely love to get appreciation photos of my sweet customers wearing these.
I recently came out with some fall items, like ear warmers, and I have so much more planned for the cold season. There are pages and pages of designs that my little hands just can’t crochet fast enough. I really love fiber art.
5. Favorite pass-time?
Besides crocheting, I really love painting, drawing, western calligraphy. Although, I feel like I don’t have very much time to enjoy doing these lately. I love, love to sing and twinkle on my ukulele. I write little songs for my fiancé Dustin.
I love to read, which is hard when your hands are always occupied, so I have taken to listening to audio books. Audible is a god send.
6. What is on your current wish-list?
I really would love this lens. I go to the camera store just to play with it all the time. This bag has been on my wish list for some time now. I would also love a pair of these Darlingtonia apple moccasins.
7. Favorite blog reads?
I have so many! My daily reads has the complete list, but recently I have been really enjoying these:
Tick Tock Vintage
Keiko Lynn
A Beautiful Mess
Eva Foreva
Skunkboy Creatures
The Velvet Bird
8. If you had three wishes, what would they be?
My three wishes would be:
(1) That I could work full-time from home and still have enough money to get my decaf almond milk bhakti chai every day. :)
(2) That it does not rain or snow on Dustin's and my wedding day next year and that it is crafty and beautiful.
(3) And just for fun, I wish Dustin and I could teleport so we could travel to Budapest or Cuba for the night whenever we like. :)
9. What's your favorite part about fall?
Everything! It is my favorite time of year. I get very nostalgic and inspired. I love how everything looks so crisp and colorful. I love the clothes, the food, and the weather. It is perfect for taking our little dogs on long walks with a hot tea in hand. I seriously love this time of year.
10. What inspires you the most?
I would say other people inspire me most; other crafty ladies doing what I do and being awesome at it is a huge motivation for me to keep doing what I am doing. I love to see other people going for it; pursuing their passion, whatever that may be. I think we are in the middle of this awesome handmade and entrepreneurial revolution and it is so exciting! I am so happy to be a part of it.
