Holiday DIY Party: Recycled Candle DIY

Day 3 of the Holiday DIY Blog Party is here!! Today, we have two great DIYs and another giveaway coming up later! Check out the previous DIYs and giveaway (still time to enter!) here and here. :)

This morning, I have an eco-friendly DIY that has you collecting all of your old, unused candles and recycling them into a new fresh candle, ready for lighting during Christmastime!

 S U P P L I E S  N E E D E D:
1. Leftover candles from around your home.
2. A glad jar of your choice.
3. Candle Wicks. Purchase at your local craft supply shop.

 D I Y  S T E P S:
1. Put a medium sized pot on the stove, filled 2/3 with water and bring to a boil.
2. Carefully cut up your candles into small chunks. I used a serrated knife and a chopping board and slowly saw at the candle to break off the pieces safely.
3. Put your glass jar in the boiling water, being sure not to get any liquid inside. You may have to weigh down the jar in order to keep it upright in the water. I used a heavy spoon.
4. Place your chunks of recycled wax into the glass jar. Use oven mits and a spoon to stir it as it melts. Continue to add max until the jar is full of melted wax.
5. Add extract if you would like! I used some of my peppermint extract to add a little scent since my recycled candles were unscented. Stir in, using the spoon.
6. Turn off the oven and carefully take the jar out of the water and set on the counter.
7. Place your wick in the jar using a pencil to to curl up the extra wick at the top and keep in place until the wax completely dries.
8. Cut off the extra wick, light and enjoy!

Check back later today for more Holiday DIY goodness!!

Do you have water in the bottom of the jar?

    1. Good question!!! Yes, but by accident. This was actually the result of letting water mix in with the wax. When it dried the wax and water separated so it looks a little funny on the bottom.
