WEAR: DIY STUDDED SHORTS

My favorite type of DIY projects are the ones that can be finished while watching an episode of Game of Thrones. ;) I bought these pair of shorts as an, "I'm seriously going to try and wear shorts this summer" resolution. I loved that they were a nice fit and not too cheeky, but they were lacking a little in the pizazz department.

I picked up a pack of Bedazzle studs from a craft store and went to town. It took me maybe an hour to complete my stud pattern and it was super easy. The pack of studs came with small silver and gold circle studs and I picked out all of the gold ones for the pattern. I used the end of a butter knife to push down the stud ends after pushing them in place. I placed them in random order until I felt like it was well studded.

I love that it adds so much to a simple pair of pants and I'm plotting my next studding project now. ;) I know you can find an amazing variety of studs on Etsy and I might buy some fun packs and stud some tops and outwear. The possibilities!

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

THREADS HIGHLIGHTS

I love being able to take the time to share outfit posts with you, especially now that I've incorporated the addition of "get the look" on each post. I've always been highly inspired by fashion bloggers, especially my favorites Kelli Murray and Bonnie Barton. I love seeing how people put things together in unique and quirky ways. It's easy to look into your closet and pick the same things over and over again, but taking a little extra time to mix something you wouldn't normally or gather inspiration from your favorite fashion icons is a great way to inspire yourself.

This coming year, I'm planning on putting more time into my style posts as well as incorporating more posts on the subject of beauty. I've got some great ideas, vlogs, and other things in store and I can't wait to get going on all of my new content! Aside from more dedication to my "threads and beauty" posts, you can also be expecting some new exciting features as well as improvements to some of the old ones.

Here are a couple "threads" highlights throughout 2012:

1// Polka Dotted Maxi & Cream Lace Top 2// Floral Jeans & Coral Heels 3// Bohemian Creams 4// Peach Collar 5// Felt Hat & Chambray 6// Glitz & Aztec Prints 7// Fall Layers 8// My Favorite Boots 9// Blanket Sweater I could wear forever.

Cheers, my friends!

THREADS

I'm so excited I finally got a haircut! My curls get really weighed down if I wait too long in-between cuts, so the couple inches off the bottom really made them come back to life. Having naturally curly hair can make it hard to get a "styled" looking cut which is why I love adding in a little asymmetry. I've had a couple requests to share come curly girl hair care tips and red dye advice. I definitely have those posts on my queue for 2013 so if you have any specific "hair" related questions please feel free to leave them in the comment section below and I'll be sure to answer them in an upcoming post!

Jon and I are spending the weekend with friends! We have plans to eat out, watch Christmas movies AND I made my very first batch of french macarons! I'm waiting for them to cool so I can put them together, but so far so good! I'll have a share a couple pictures. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. :)

FANCY SHMANCY: DECORATE YOURSELF

I am a diehard glitter girl at heart. I can't help my love for a little glam, no matter how hard I try...I LOVE sparkles. To me, just a little touch of shine is perfect. Since getting my haircut, I've been thinking about getting a few hair pieces to replace the plain bobby pins I usually use. I love all of the products at Bando. Hair clips, jumbo bobbies, shoe clips, scarfs, jeweled combs...It's an eye feast for any girl with a crush on sparkle. ;)

1// Metallic Mini Pom-Pom Flower 2// Flurry Pouf 3// Glitter Bow Shoe-Clips 4// Good Time Color Riot Comb 5// Flash Bobbi Set 6// Sparkle & Shine Jumbo Bobbi 7// Crystal Crush Bobbi 8// Sparkle & Shine Bobbi Set 9// Up to No Good

I'm thinking I need some jumbo bobbi's and bow shoe clips in my life. ;)

CHEER: DRESS UP FOR THE HOLIDAYS

I love an excuse to dress up. Being in my mid-twenties and working full-time doesn't always provide a lot of opportunities to put on a fun dress and rock a little glitz. During Christmastime, Jon and I end up having a handful of Christmas parties to attend between our two jobs. This year, I've really been leaning towards black and gold for holiday wear. I've always had a soft side for a little shine and glitter. I can't deny it. ;)

Tips on Dressing Up for the Holidays:
* Rock an over-sized scarf, snood, or wrap so you can still show off your outfit and feel warm. I love how Anna of In Honor of Design wears her fur snood for the holidays. Very classic and glamorous.
* Try a sock bun or a new hair-do! This was my first attempt at "sock-bunning". My hair has gotten to that way too long to manage stage so I wanted to try a simple up-do. I was pleased to see that the sock bun didn't look too crazy with naturally curly hair like mine, since I usually see it done with straight hair. This look is easy AND feels dressy. Try your own sock bun here.
* Be yourself. I think sometimes it's a little tricky making your personal sense of style into something more fancy if your personal style isn't too fancy to begin with. Add elements of what you like to your little black dress. Incorporate your favorite pair of shoes, jewelry, and a fun nail color.

Outift Details: 1// Over-sized Scarf - Target 2// Gold Top - Forever21 3// High Low Skirt - American Eagle 4// Gold Dot Tights - American Eagle 5// Leather Boots - c/o Blowfish Shoes

What are some of your favorite fancy things to wear during the holidays??

Thanks so much for following along with 12 Days of Christmas Cheer!! Jenny will be sharing some outfit inspiration later today on her blog! We are 6 days in and still have 6 days of Christmas Cheer blogging ahead! Follow along on our Facebook page here.

FANCY SHMANCY: BUNDLE UP!

Although I will always love an oversized sweater, one of my favorite ways to stay warm is layering! Just by layering a coat or cardigan different ways with new colors and textures from your closet you can create several different outfit looks. I tend to lean more towards a neutral color or pattern so I can play with colors and textures in my pant or top choice. Outerwear shopping can get expensive!! Make sure you pick what you truly love and imagine some of your favorite outfits with that piece. Will it coordinate with most of your closet or just a few things? All of my selections above are under $100. :)

1// JOU JOU Faux Leather Jacket - Tillys 2// Navy Geometric Cardigan - SheInside 3// Asymmetric Double-Layers Trench Coat - ROMWE  4// Khaki Drap - SheInside 5// Mint Cable Knit - Chicwish 6// Gray Woollen Coat - Chicnova  7// Omah Aztec Wrap Coat - BANK Fashion 8// Camel Cardigan - ROMWE 9// Dots Life Coat - Modcloth

Keep warm!

When the cooler weather hits, that's my cue to get cozy! I've been wearing every over-sized sweater and cardigan in my closet lately. Mix that with a hot drink, close friends, a good show, and a fire in the fireplace...and I'm ready to hibernate for the rest of the year. :) What are your favorite things to wear when the weather gets cooler??

This outfit was for a day full of shopping and catch-up with my bestie Anica who's home for a short while from Texas. I've missed her sooo much. It's been four very long months! We did some treasure hunting at the local thrift store, caught the "frappy hour", at Starbucks and window shopped at Perimeter mall.

This outfit was one of my favorites this week -- I used one of my light weather scarfs to make a fun turban hat since I wasn't having the best hair day and mixed it with some seventies inspired colors and good walkin shoes! I used to be really stuck on blacks, greys, and blues -- so evolving those colors since last year has been so fun to experiment with:

I love the color of the cardigan I scored on clearance at Target a couple weeks ago. It really adds a cute springy look to any outfit. :) I'm finding that I really love mixing patterns and colors that wouldn't normally be put together. It's actually hard for me to wear an outfit without at least one pattern!

* Into the Woods Headband: MaieDae - $17.00
* Aqua Cardigan: Target - $12.80
* Ivory Ruffle Shift: Thrifted - $4.49

Threads: 4.13.11

"Threads is a frequent feature all about affordability, comfort, and versatility while still capturing your sense of personal style. For more details behind Threads, click here!"

I'm really exciting about today's threads post. I wore this outfit on Sunday and love the combination of patterns and colors. This outfit was SUPER comfortable & inexpensive!

You may be wondering about those shoes, "How comfortable can they really be?!"...Just to let you know, I think high heels are beautiful but I never ever wear them because they kill my feet! I was shopping in target a couple weeks ago and found the little beauties above and thought, "No way can they be comfortable," but I tried them on and was surprised that they felt great! I made sure to get a size that was 1/2 smaller than what I normally wear so they would be secure, but I've been able to wear these shoes all day without taking them off and feel completely comfortable! The secret is really finding platforms that are stable and secure. Even though I was in 4 1/2" shoes, it really only felt like an inch. And NOW I want to find more....being short is fun, but going from 5'3" to 5'7" makes me feel like a superstar. ;)

Top - Bottom (pricing is approximate)
* Lined Dress: Thrifted - $4.59
* Citrine Geode Necklace: MaieDae Handmades (get yours here!) - $20.00
* Belt: Borrowed from a skirt
* Mint Flower Cocktail Ring: H&M - $8.00
* Mint Sorbet Nail Polish: Sally Hansen - $5.50
* Wine Colored Tights: Forever 21 - $5.80
* Platform Heels: Target - $24.00

Approximate Outfit Total (including accessories) =  68.00

I'm loving the neutral tones with pops of color! I'm also a huge fan of patterns and usually won't be found without some type of fun pattern to go with my outfits. On another note -- that skirt is the most comfortable, fun, and flowy shirt I have ever owned. I'm a short girl (5'3") so I was hesitant to try something super long, but I'm really happy with the look and the ease of this outfit. Thanks for sharing!

PS - Two of my way adorable friends, Holly and Ashleigh are doing the 30for30 challenge (30 pieces of clothing for 30 days) and have put together some great looks. Click on their names to take a look!
